Welcome to the World of Whiskies on CityStoresWorld of Whiskies for Scotch Whisky, Blends and Single Malts plus Irish Whiskey
More about The World of Whiskies for Scotch Whisky, Blends and Single Malts plus Irish Whiskey Whisky refers to a broad category of alcoholic beverages that are distilled from fermented grain mash and aged in wooden casks generally made of oak. Different grains are used for different varieties, these include: barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize. Whisky derives from the Gaelic word for "water" - uisge (u-is-gee) in Scotland or uisce (u-is-kee) in Ireland. It is always Scotch whisky / plural: whiskies, and Irish whiskey / plural whiskeys. One of the whiskies we tried from the World of Whiskies was from The Glenrothes Distillery - Established 1879. The Glenrothes Single Spey Malt Whisky. The bottle we had was 700ml, 43% vol., Distilled in 1989 bottled in 2002, (This vintage has now sold out), Character described as 'Mellow, Oak and Dried Fruits'. Checked by J L Stevens on 8/10/1989 and approved by R H Fenwick on 26/02/2000 - Distilled and bottled in Scotland by Berry Bros. and Rudd (1886) of 3 St James St, London a Product of Scotland in a distinctive dumpy round bottle of smooth single speyside malt scotch whisky.
