Holland and Barrett health food shops can be found in almost every major town and city. The company also has nineteen Nature's Way stores in Ireland, although some of these shops have been converted to Holland and Barrett but still trade under the existing Nature's Way brand. All of the Holland & Barrett own brand vitamin and mineral supplements are made by the company itself. Although they mainly sell vitamins, minerals and food supplements, they also sell a range of products, such as health snack bars, smoothies, herbal teas and toiletries. They also produce their own best selling magazine called 'Healthy'. In October 2006 Holland & Barrett opened their 500th shop in Eldon Square, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. This shop was opened by Gillian McKeith, the internationally acclaimed Holistic Nutritionist and presenter of You Are What You Eat hit on UK Channel 4. NBTY is the parent company of Holland & Barrett. NBTY own Vitamin World in the USA - NBTY was formerly known as Nature's Bounty, Inc., a manufacturer of vitamins and nutritional supplements which are distributed under many third party brands in the United States and internationally. Its name was changed from Nature's Bounty, Inc. to NBTY, Inc. in 1995. In 1999, NBTY became a supplier of nutritional supplements for Wal-Mart under the Nature's Bounty brand, and was named Wal-Mart's Supplier of the Year in 2002. In 2003 Holland and Barrett bought the UK chain of stores, GNC, which they still own. Holland & Barrett are often used by the vegan and vegetarian communities for their extensive range of products, including such ranges as Linda McCartney and Redwood. Other communities with specific dietary needs, those who are lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant also buy from Holland and Barrett as they have a wide 'free-from' range including soya milk and gluten free bread.
