Austin Reed LtdAustin Reed UK - Austin Reed Suits - Austin Reed Clothing - Austin Reed Shirts etc
After opening his first shop on Fenchurch Street in 1900, their founder, Austin Reed, began the tailoring business that would continue to carry his name for over 100 years. Austin Reed himself opened branches in London's Regent Street and Oxford Street, Birmingham and Manchester. The 1920's Austin Reed Ltd played a vital role in the redevelopment of Regent Street, becoming one of London's best-loved shopping areas, taking the then revolutionary step of introducing a quality, value-for-money ready-to-wear suits - starting their continuing innovation and readiness to respond to new market directions and retailing practices. In the 1930's Austin Reed Ltd was rapidly becoming a national chain. Renowned for its clever visual advertising developed by artists like Tom Purvis and cartoonist Fougasse. The 1940's saw Austin Reed become a household name due to its complete dedication to top notch service using "It's just part of the Austin Reed service," that became a national catch phrase. Austin Reed's future seemed cast in stone when the manufacturing of service uniforms for both male and female soldiers gave the company an even higher profile, especially when Prime Minister Winston Churchill wore an Austin Reed designed one-piece 'siren suit'. By the time Austin Reed Ltd celebrated its 50th anniversary, Austin Reed himself had retired as chairman of the business that bore his name. Focus continued through the '60s and '70s, leading to the expansion of the women's range in the 1980's and even venturing into airport retailing, opening its first tax-free shop at Heathrow's Terminal 4, followed by Terminal 2, Gatwick, Edinburgh and Stanstead. With the relaxation of dress codes and increased leisure time inspired the company to introduce the REED label in 1998, offering essential items of contemporary smart separates and casualwear in quality fabrics, such as wrinkle-free cotton, moleskin, linen, wool and cashmere. |
